Why 24/7 Prayer Team?

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Thank you for visiting the Chicagoland United in Prayer’s (CUIP), A Praying City initiative.

A Praying City is a spontaneous response of leaders and ministries across Chicago to pray for our city, our neighborhoods, our country and our world.

A Praying City launched on Thursday, March 26, at 8pm, as Charlie Dates hosted 25 pastors and leaders in a sixty minute, city-wide prayer gathering. This video has now been watched 2,900 times. This video is intended as tool for groups to use in their own prayer gatherings. Feel free to watch it here as a basis for your own prayer.

That said, our citywide prayer gathering was just one part of our efforts in addressing COVID-19 in prayer. In addition, we are rallying individuals to join in a week of prayer without ceasing. The Apostle Paul in 1 Thessalonians says,

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

In Ephesians he urges us, that we are to fight our spiritual battles against the enemy by

“praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.” Ephesians 6:18.

Finally in Philippians Paul writes,

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

We take these admonitions to prayer very seriously. We want to walk in prayer. But we are also asking people across Chicagoland to commit to provide 24/7 prayer cover for our city. We know Paul was speaking of an attitude. But in these unusual times, we believe we need to show unusual unity. With 96 people praying 15 minutes once a day, for 7 days we will have 24/7 prayer.  Would you be willing to join us?

If you are in, you can sign up here. It will take you 15 seconds to fill out. Name, time slot and a few other details. No pressure. Only if you feel you should. Our city and our world is in need. God answers prayer. Please consider joining us.

In Christ,
